H-alpha telescopes hide all unnecessary information and allow us to observe the lower layer of the solar atmosphere: the chromosphere. There we will always find activity, although the well-known sunspotsmay be missing.
These devices show us the Sun in a very narrow range of the visible spectrum, the wavelength band known as Hydrogen-alpha or H-alpha.
Thus, with an H-alpha telescope we will be able to observe solar phaculae, filaments, spicules and spectacular solar protuberances.
Being a very specific tool, H-alpha telescopes have always been very expensive. The American brand Daystar has made a great effort of integration to be able to offer an equipment of excellent technical performance at a more than interesting price.
Daystar, the solar telescope specialist, combines an H-alpha filter with an achromatic doublet with multi-layer anti-reflective coating.
Features:
- Carbon tube for light weight. No need for an expensive astronomical mount.
- Helical focuser: focusing is done by turning a specific ring. Thus, the camera or eyepiece moves with the focus and heavier accessories do not slip.
- Integrated viewfinder: a real help to find the Sun safely.
The Solar Scout solar telescope is equipped with the QUARK H-alpha solar filter. Its most important feature is that you can enlarge this filter to get a different image.
Thanks to the heating system, the exact distance on the standard Quark filter is determined by the thermal expansion. You can change the band by +/- 0.5 Angstrom. The included USB cable provides the necessary voltage.
Daystar offers two versions of the H-alpha QUARK module whose filter has been optimized for a special purpose:
- the bulge model for observing phenomena at the edge of the Sun
- the chromosphere model for solar disk phenomena
Both versions have the same price. It is only an optimization: half of the bulge variant is a bit higher. Due to the higher light transmission, even the finest prominences of the Sun's rim are visible. The chromosphere variant has a narrower band and thus forms structures in the solar disk in the high spectrum.
Of course, prominences can be seen with the chromosphere model and vice versa.
Corresponding to the two versions of the QUARK filter there are versions for prominences and chromosphere for each version of the DayStar H-alpha solar telescopes.
A robust carrying case is included.
