Characteristics:
The DSO cold room line is the most advanced product line in the history of Player One. We started the project from 2021, through a lot of modifying and rebuilding we made this final version. It brings our newest technology and design to everyone, we are very proud to introduce this line of chambers.
Power supply is not included in the camera package, high quality 12V 5A power supply link: https://player-one-astronomy.com/product/12v-5a-power-supply-dc5-5-x-2-1mm/

New avant-garde design
Polygon as regular hexagon is very Player One, DSO refrigerated chambers want to make it more beautiful and practical. After many attempts, we fixed the final style, which uses a scientific and technological octagon to build the main body line and 4 sides are cambered surface, complemented by round chamfers to achieve both rigidity and flexibility. The front piece is round to avoid diffraction on the RASA. The positive red, which is like a summer fire, is combined with the discreet and firm black, and the superfine glazing process on the whole surface makes the camera look luxurious and cool, and keep the style of Player One.
The Poseidon-C Pro (IMX571) refrigerated camera is developed by Player One Astronomy, is designed for advanced DSO imaging. It adopts Sony IMX571 APS-C format color sensor. The pixel size of 3.76um accommodates a well depth of 71.7Ke with a total of 26MP (resolution is 6252*4176), and the diagonal is 28.3mm.
Rear 4-point sensor tilt plate for rear adjustment
When taking deep sky objects, the use of sensor tilt plate can get much smaller field curvature of the telescope. We adopt back adjustment and 4-point tilt plate, it has many advantages in use.
The 4-point adjustment is easier to know which corner needs to be adjusted. Built-in high density sponge shading pad can block the light from side slits without any side leakage.
To understand the 4-point adjustment method, we have made an example for users:
Deep Cooling
Player One series refrigerated chamber uses 2-stage TEC refrigeration unit, after improving the structure design to reject heat back to the chamber, the Delta-T of the chamber can reach more than 40℃.
512MB of DDR3 cache
As an improvement, the DDR3 cache in the cooled cameras is increased to 512MB. It helps stabilize and secure data transmission, effectively prevents frame dropping and greatly reduces read noise.
With the DDR3 cache, the camera no longer has high demands on computing needs, it will still perform excellently even when connected to a USB 2.0 port.
STARVIS Technology
Poseidon-C Pro (IMX571) cooled camera based on Sony's STARVIS technology, the back-illuminated pixel technology used in CMOS image sensors.
APS-C format
Poseidon-C Pro cooled camera has APS-C format (23.5mm*15.7mm), this size is quite large for DSO images.
Native 16bit ADC
The IMX571 sensor has an on-chip 16-bit native ADC. The 16-bit native ADC (65536 levels) provides higher sampling resolution than 12-bit (4096 levels) or 14-bit (16384 levels). When we perform nonlinear transformation, 16-bit data can support very strong transformation and can also improve the transition between light and dark, also 16-bit can make the color more vivid.
No-Amp-Glow
Poseidon-C Pro cooled camera is a Non-Amp-Glow camera too!
300s dark frame at -20℃ of Poseidon-C Pro cooled chamber (resize to 50%):
Non-Amp-Glow can give us a very clean background, much easier to obtain high quality images.
Type-C data port and power port
The rear of the cooled camera has 2 Type-C data ports and a 12V DC 5.5×2.1mm power port.
The main data port supports USB3.0 protocol, the camera can run at 15fps in RAW8 mode. The Type-C port is easier to connect when mounting the imaging equipment at night.
When recording images, since the actual writing speed will be affected by the writing speed of the hard disk itself, when the writing speed of the hard disk is slow, the recording may not reach the theoretical speed. It is recommended to use a high quality solid state drive for recording data to take full advantage of the camera's performance.
The camera has a 12V DC5.5*2.1mm port to provide sufficient power to the TEC cooling system. If you do not need to power the cooling, just connect the main Type-C port, the camera will work as an uncooled camera.
Use of standard cable
Cooling system and anti-mold heater
In the ASCOM window, we provide 3 adjustable parameters: Target temperature, Fan speed and Anti-mold power.
Delta-T standard: 40℃ (±2℃) , when ambient temp 30℃, fan speed 100%, anti-spray heater 0%.
Recommended Delta-T settings: 35℃ below ambient temperature, fan speed 70%, dew heater 10%, power consumption 40- 60%.
The rotation speed of the cooling fan is also adjustable, the default value is 70% speed.
The problem of dew is the biggest enemy in astroimaging, the camera integrates an anti-dew heater in front of the camera. The heater power is adjustable.
Overvoltage and overcurrent protection mechanism
Player One cameras produced by us guarantee the safety of your camera and other equipment by means of overvoltage and overcurrent protection mechanisms.
Performance
Dual sampling mode
The Saturn SQR series has dual sampling mode. The Nromal mode and the Low Noise mode have different advantages in imaging.
1. normal mode has faster FPS, it is more suitable for planetary images.
2. 2. Low noise mode (LRN) has lower read noise and higher dynamic range, it is more suitable for DSO images.
With a gain of 0, the camera has a dynamic range of 14.26 steps and a total capacity of 71.7 ke; read noise is 3.96e.
HCG open with gain = 125, the camera has a dynamic range of 13.58 points and a capacity of 16.6 Ke, readout noise is only 1.36 e.
Low noise mode
Normal Mode
Image frequency
The Poseidon-C Pro cooled camera can run 15FPS under RAW8 mode, which is much faster than existing models on the market.
Full well
Poseidon-C Pro cooled camera has 71.7Ke full well, it is more than 1.4 times than IMX571 Basic (50ke).
Reading noise
As for the read noise, we solemnly promise that all values are obtained from real tests. And for users, they can use Sharpcap 4 for testing. SC4 has a function called Sensor Analysis, it provides a very simple way to test read noise.
We have written a tutorial on our website: https://player-one-astronomy.com/service/manuals/
If you are interested in reading noise test, you can try it yourself, which is very simple.
Dark current
The dark current is only 0.000105 e/s/pix at -20℃, and 0.001178e/s/pix at 0℃. In the whole curve, the dark current is almost like a straight line, which can show that the Poseidon camera has very good quality.
