Crystal Growing 4M
Recommended age: from 8 years old
With the Crystal Growing from 4M you can conduct a whole series of chemistry experiments to grow your crystal clusters. Grow colorful crystals of all kinds in the container provided. Learn how crystals form from saturated solutions. Proudly display them as a collection to all your friends and family!
Object of the game:
- Prepare your solutions and let the chemical reactions take effect by making the crystals grow naturally. Not only will you see the beauty first hand but you will also see live how the chemical reactions take effect.
Contents:
large bag with white crystals* (a base compound called Monoammonium Phosphate), 3 small bags with seed mix for colored crystals*, 1 container, 1 seed spoon, detailed instructions. Also needed, but not included in this kit: a pitcher of hot water, an apron, goggles and rubber gloves. * Important issues: 1. 1. The different colored seed mixtures contain the following chemical compounds: White seeds: Aluminum potassium sulfate of potash. Blue seeds: Aluminum potassium sulfate, sodium chloride and Brilliant Blue FCF. Red seeds: Aluminum potassium sulfate of potassium and Amaranth. Note that the mixture of red and blue seeds are intense colors. They produce very beautiful crystals but be careful not to spill! Stains on the skin are temporary but stains on clothing or surfaces will be permanent. For this reason, an apron and wash gloves should be worn when handling seed mixtures. Cover the work surface with newspaper and clean it after performing the experiment. Dispose of the color solution and used seed mixtures properly so as not to stain the sink. 2. 2. The crystal compound (Monoammonium Phosphate) is hygroscopic: it tends to "capture" moisture from the air and this creates bonds between the crystals. The material can harden (curdle) but can be easily separated afterwards, as if it were sugar.
Learning:
- The child will be able to learn concepts such as chemical reaction, crystallization, saturated solution.... They will understand that the process of crystal formation is a slow and natural process that is generated in chemical reactions that occur in saturated solutions, where the liquid can no longer absorb more molecules of the solute. And that surplus precipitates causing crystallization.
