INFORMATIVE NOTE: on the prices indicated for each of the OFFICINA STELLARE telescopes we will have to add the costs derived from the transport boxes, since the packaging is critical in this type of high-end product to avoid any damage in the transport from origin to destination. Therefore, once you know which model you are interested in, we kindly ask you to contact us to define the cost of transport packaging as well as to see recommended accessories for it.
FULL version: OTA version with Fli ATLAS focuser, customized adapter for CCD camera.
OFFICINA STELLARE VELOCE series: the new concept in wide field and high brightness
The ultra-fast (extremely bright) Riccardi-Honders astrograph represents the only true innovation in optical design in recent years.
Born from the intuition of the Italian designer, Dr. Massimo Riccardi, as a variant of the original Honders design, this new configuration has managed to combine an extremely fast F/3 focal ratio with a wide flat field for astrophotography.
In addition to these incredible optical performances, the VELOCE RH Series instruments are distinguished by their unique compactness, making them very portable and easy to install on typical amateur mounts.
The VELOCE RH Series instruments, manufactured by OFFICINA STELLARE, are the only ones in the world personally designed by Dr. Riccardi, inventor of the Riccardi-Honders optical system.
The VELOCE Series of telescopes offers the perfect instruments for those astrophotographers who are looking for a really large, corrected, flat field. Large nebulae or star fields will be reproduced with high resolution and great detail. The fast focal ratio of these tubes will allow the use of extremely restrictive narrow band filters, still offering the possibility to work with short exposures, and will also guarantee, thanks to their wide field, ease of use in applications such as the study of variable stars, asteroids or the localization of exoplanets.
Optics
The back reflection surface of the primary mirror (called Mangin) is the main distinguishing feature of the Riccardi-Honders optical design. By combining the reflection and double refraction actions (the incoming light passes through twice the entire thickness of the primary mirror) of this element it is possible to obtain a large optical correction while allowing the development of an extremely compact instrument.
The optical design includes a corrector plate across the entire aperture and is complemented by a group of two flattening elements located just in front of the focal plane. This complex optical system guarantees the astrophotographer a large off-axis correction, despite working with an F/3 focal ratio.
Another important factor is that the Riccardi-Honders optical design includes spherical surfaces, resulting in a great advantage for easy collimation and long-term stability/durability.
Mechanics
Thanks to modern optical design programs that allow us to verify the focus shift caused by changes in ambient temperature, it has been possible to identify and produce an optimized version of some components to compensate for thermal variations. This will ensure the stability of the focal plane position during a photographic session, an indispensable condition when using instruments with such a focal ratio.
All mechanical parts are produced using only the highest quality materials available on the market, such as a particularly light Aluminum/Ergal, stainless steel, bronze and particular alloys for thermal compensation issues. The tube has been designed and optimized with CAD and computer modeling support to achieve the highest robustness while maintaining maximum lightness. All parts have been CNC machined to ensure maximum precision. High-strength anodizing has been selected for high resistance to adverse environmental conditions.
The VELOCE Series can also be fitted with a piggy back support specially designed by OFFICINA STELLARE to place a guide.
Finally, just to add that the large mechanical extraction of the focal plane allows the use of complex optical trains, either with CCD cameras or with the most popular DSLR cameras.
