The Altair Astro Premium OIII 6.5nm filter is designed for astro imaging of nebulae with Mono CCD or CMOS cameras, blocking light pollution by cutting light pollution wavelengths. The filter blocks UV IR rays and has an AR anti-reflection coating.

The OIII filters can also be used for visual observation of nebulae with apertures of 8" or larger, providing extremely high contrast views of nebulae.

Purchasing the complete SHO set allows significant savings compared to purchasing the filters separately.

A 6.5nm to 7nm FHWM provides higher contrast compared to 12nm FHWM filters, e.g., for better performance in heavily light-polluted urban areas, and higher contrast for imaging faint objects. Emission lines from artificial illumination (mercury (Hg) and sodium (Na)), as well as sky glow, are completely suppressed, allowing long exposures in urban conditions. LED illumination outside the OIII bandpass is also blocked.

Steep transmission curves with narrow pass bands provide high image contrast. Advanced UV/IR blocking coatings allow small size stars to be obtained even with refractor optics.
