Summary

QHY533M (mono) and QHY533C (color) have different interface designs to be more flexible in handling different applications.

The QHY533M can be connected directly to the QHYCFW3S-SR without disassembling any parts of the filter wheel (such as the filter holder). This provides a very short back focal length and easy to fix! In addition, the QHY533M + QHYCFW3S-SR combination can be easily connected to a DSLR lens, with only an additional adapter (sold separately).

Both QHY533M/C comes with an additional adapter for tripod interface. This facilitates shooting with DSLR lenses.

Features

BSI

One of the advantages of the back-illuminated CMOS structure is the improved full well capacity. This is especially useful for sensors with small pixels. In a typical front-illuminated sensor, photons from the target entering the photosensitive layer of the sensor must first pass through the metal wiring that is embedded just above the photosensitive layer. The structure of the wiring reflects some of the photons and reduces the efficiency of the sensor.

In the back-illuminated sensor, light can penetrate the photosensitive surface from the reverse side. In this case, the wiring structure embedded in the sensor is located below the photosensitive layer. As a result, more photons strike the photosensitive layer and more electrons are generated and captured in the pixel well. This ratio of photon output to electron output is called quantum efficiency. The higher the quantum efficiency, the more efficient the sensor is at converting photons into electrons, and therefore the more sensitive the sensor is at capturing an image of something faint.

True RAW data

In the DSLR implementation there is a RAW image output, but it is usually not completely RAW. If you examine closely, you can still see some signs of noise reduction and hot pixel removal. This can have a negative effect on the image for astronomy, such as the "star-eating" effect. However, QHY cameras offer a TRUE RAW IMAGE OUTPUT and produce an image composed only of the original signal, thus maintaining maximum flexibility for post-acquisition astronomical image processing programs and other scientific imaging applications.

Anti-dew technology

Based on almost 20 years of experience in cold room design, the QHY cold room has implemented total dew control solutions. The optical window has a built-in dew heater and the chamber is protected from internal moisture condensation. An electric heater plate for the chamber window can prevent dew formation and the sensor itself is kept dry with our silicone gel tube socket design for humidity control inside the sensor chamber.

Cooling

In addition to dual-stage TE cooling, QHYCCD implements proprietary technology in hardware to control dark current noise.

Amplification control

Compared to the latest generation of entry-level astrocameras, such as the QHY183 or QHY 163, the QHY533M has much better magnification control.

Design

QHYCFW3S Fitting for QHYCFW3S Fitting for QHY533M

In order to allow all astrophotographers to easily use the threaded interface of the 533M to connect the filter wheel without disassembling any parts of the wheel (such as the filter container), from 2022, QHYCFW3-SR will not be loaded with this adapter (below). This adapter is used to connect QHY163 or QHY183 while QHY533M does not need it. Therefore, if you want to get a QHY533M, we recommend you to choose QHYCFW3S-SR to get the best experience.

This adapter is still included in the CFW3S-SR package. You can still use CFW3S-SR with QHY183 or QHY163.

QHY533M Parallel position adjustment

The QHY533M is connected to the QHYCFW3S by threads, so the sensor may not be parallel to the filter wheel when the threads are fully rotated. In this case, you can adjust the front of the 533M to the correct angle of the sensor.

Design of QHY533C

A free E adapter kit will be provided with QHY533C. The adapters can be directly connected to the 55mm BFL M48 MPCC, or Nikon/Canon DSLR lens interface (need to purchase another DSLR lens adapter). At the same time, the C-port thread can be provided with the QHY533C and the C-port lens can be directly mounted.
