The Sky-Watcher 100i mount follows the deformation wave design model, commonly known as harmonic.

The Wave 100i weighs only 4.3 kg, but can support a native load capacity of 10 kg and 15 kg, without and with counterweight respectively.

Advantages of harmonic designs

The Sky-Watcher 100i is based on the voltage wave design, commonly known as harmonic. This type of mount mechanics comes with a number of advantages for astrophotography, including very accurate precision tracking that is pertinent for longer exposure imaging, low backlash and smooth motion for stable tracking, compact designs for ease of transport, and a relatively high payload-to-weight ratio to accommodate a much wider range of equipment.

The 300:1 gear ratio ensures smooth turning and tracking

The Wave 100i has a 300:1 gear ratio, which represents a relatively high level of tracking and turning accuracy, as torque and rotation are split into smaller increments, lessening the impact of jolts between rotations that might be evident the longer the exposures. The 100i's maximum slew rate is 2400x (10° per second).

Works at any latitude

The Sky-Watcher Wave 100i has a working latitude range of 0° to 90°, which means it can be successfully operated at any latitude and does not suffer from the limitations of more traditional gear mounts with counterweight obstruction and out-of-range zenith.

Supports multiple tracking

The Wave 100i supports sidereal, lunar and solar tracking. This means it can be reliably used for nighttime astrophotography, lunar capture and stunning solar imaging.
