Introduced in 2017, the Bushnell ENGAGE binoculars are one of the best value binoculars on the market. Bushnell offers a versatile and affordable option for hunters, birdwatchers and astronomy enthusiasts. They are a true all-rounder option because of their ruggedness, making them equally at home as basic backpacking equipment for weekend field trips or a day's hunting.

Construction and chassis

The frame of these binoculars is strong and sturdy but not excessively heavy. In fact, they have a very good balance, making them heavy enough to be easy to stabilize, but not so heavy as to cause fatigue during continuous use. On the other hand, they are not excessively bulky either, which helps them to be carried in multiple ways, since they are articulated and can be folded on themselves. This last feature, together with the lens diameter, determines the width of the tubes, which cannot be excessively bulky.

They have a very high resistance to the hardest treatment, something fundamental in an equipment destined to the practice of outdoor activities. It is really difficult for them to suffer any damage due to an accidental fall or humidity problems.

Its studied ergonomics makes them feel very pleasant to hold, helped by its rubber coating, with some strategic rough areas to ensure grip with wet hands. A cover that also has protective functions and attenuates possible swaying on clothing, thanks to the brake provided by the rubbing of the rubber on it. In addition, noises are avoided as a result of knocking against other metal parts of the equipment.

Lenses

In this aspect, the lens protection technology called "EXO Barrier" stands out. It is a coating developed by Bushnell, which molecularly bonds to the lens and fills microscopic pores in the glass. The result is an ultra-slippery coating that repels water, oil, fog, dust and other particles. Rain, snow, fingerprints and dirt won't stick either. Logically, this treatment also helps to keep the binoculars clean and will therefore maintain clear vision even with heavy use.

Another highlight is the dielectric (DX) coated lenses for the prisms. The light transmission of the BaK-4 type prism is improved by using this type of coating instead of a metallic mirror coating. This causes the prism surfaces to act as a dielectric mirror. Dielectric prisms produce high reflectivity, great color, amazing resolution and fantastic detail, even in twilight hours. They also allow 92% light transmission for brilliant images.

The depth of field in these binoculars is also exceptional. You can keep an eye on what is happening outside your main objective, which is a really rare feature. Finally, the lenses of the ENGAGE binoculars are made of environmentally friendly, lead-free glass and are fully waterproof, meeting IPX7 military certification.

Accessories

Bushnell has increased the number of accessories included with the binoculars. Packaging has been significantly improved and an outer cordura carrying bag, a smaller protective bag, which also serves as a lens cleaning cloth, has been included. Along with the protective bags, Bushnell provides rubber lens covers for both front and rear lenses. Both are easy to put on and take off. To keep the binoculars within easy reach, a durable and comfortable padded strap, imprinted with the brand name, is also included.
