Field flattener without reduction factor for refractors Explore Scientific ED80 and ED102 APO
The image focal plane of many telescopes is not flat, but curved. This means that only the area in the center is in perfect focus and the edge is blurred. The human eye normally compensates for this image property, but the camera shows an increasing blur towards the edge of the image field. The Explore Scientific Zero X field flattener eliminates field curvature in many telescopes with a focal length of approximately 480 to 720 mm. The Zero X field flattener was calculated and developed for the apochromatic (APO) Explore Scientific ED80 and ED102 with focal ratios of F=6.0 and F=7.0. It considerably increases image sharpness at the edges. Stars appear round and undistorted, which is a clear advantage for the aesthetics of the overall image. The Zero X image flattener can be used not only with Apos Explore Scientific, but also with many others. This flattener does not change the focal length of the telescope.

Correction for full-frame camera sensors (24x36mm)
The image flattener Explore Scientific Zero X has been developed in response to the rapid growth of ever larger camera sensors. With it, a field flattener is finally available that illuminates and corrects the field of view of full-frame camera sensors up to 24x36mm.

How to use the Zero X field flattener with M48 thread connection
This field flattener has a 2-inch (50.8 mm) connection on the telescope side, which is inserted into the telescope in place of an eyepiece or zenith prism mirror. On the camera side, there is a standardized M48 x 0.75 mm connection thread. This M48 connection thread offers a larger free inner diameter than the usual T2 (M42) and prevents optical vignetting when using large camera sensors. With an optionally available camera-specific adapter ring, a DSLR camera can be connected. The working distance has been set to 55 mm. Of course, mirrorless cameras or special astronomical cameras can also be used with the M48 thread connection. For this, spacer sleeves (spacers) or M48 adapters are additionally required to set the correct working distance to 55 mm. This should always be done with every field corrector or flattener to achieve the best possible field flattening.
