Filter Kepler n° 82A light blue for 1.25" eyepieces
Color filters are used to enhance contrast when observing lunar and planetary surfaces. Each color helps to observe specific details (Martian seas or polar caps, clouds on the surface of Jupiter or Venus, etc.). They are screwed to the barrel of the 31.75 mm diameter eyepieces and the specific colorant is embedded inside the glass itself. The reference of each filter is given by its color according to the Wratten catalog.
Use: This is a filter very similar to #80A, which increases contrast without absorbing too much light, thanks to its pale blue color, which highlights poorly contrasted areas, while maintaining the overall brightness of the image. It works very well with Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon, being also suitable for Mars: it enhances the orange and purple clouds of Jupiter and Saturn, contrasts the polar caps of Mars and increases the contrast and details areas of the lunar surface, reducing the excessive brightness of the image. For diameters of 150 mm or larger, it eliminates excess light when observing the planet Venus, thus providing a higher quality image. Enhances the jets in the tails of comets. Without being an anti-light pollution filter, by absorbing orange light from street lighting, it moderately improves contrast in deep sky visual observations (galaxies, nebulae and clusters) with instruments of 90mm diameter or larger. It is a valuable filter that can be used in conjunction with another filter and is capable of moderately suppressing the false green chromaticity of refracting telescopes. It also enhances the structure detail of bright galaxies such as M51.
