Filter Kepler n° 38A dark blue for 1.25" eyepieces
Color filters are used to enhance contrast when observing lunar and planetary surfaces. Each color helps to observe specific details (Martian seas or polar caps, clouds on the surface of Jupiter or Venus, etc.). They are screwed to the barrel of the 31.75 mm diameter eyepieces and the specific colorant is embedded inside the glass itself. The reference of each filter is given by its color according to the Wratten catalog.
Usage: This filter strongly absorbs orange and red, so it is used for the observation of Jupiter, by notably increasing the contrast between the reddish structures including the Red Spot as well as the white ovals in orange and purple clouds of Jupiter and Saturn; it is also used to observe the subtle dark cloudy details present in the Saturn bands, also improving the contrast of the rings; suitable for the study of the Martian atmosphere (dust storms and their high clouds); increases the contrast in the atmosphere of Venus during twilight viewing and removes excess light from the planet, thus providing a higher quality image; enhances gas tails on very bright comets. Suitable for diameters of 150 mm or more.
