Baader Morpheus 12.5 mm 76º eyepiece.

Morpheus is the God of dreams - and after more than three years of development the eyepiece of our dreams is presented: the MORPHEUS® 76° BIG FIELD OCULAR.

Our Morpheus eyepieces are available in 4.5 / 6.5 / 9 / 12.5 / 14 and 17.5mm focal lengths. During these 3 years Baader has put all its effort in both the craftsmanship and optical design of these fantastic state-of-the-art eyepieces.

In addition, with a high quality rubber eyecup they are very comfortable and perfect even for observing with glasses.

The Phantom Coating® coated optical group provides an absolutely tight seal for the eyepiece, whose lenses are made of rare earths.

The Morpheus are designed to be incredibly practical: they have been optimized to keep weight at bay by minimizing the metal of their housing, making them ideal for use with binocular heads. They have an M43 thread to attach to prime focus a still or video camera with photo-video thread and feature 1¼" and 2" barrels with safety notches (no notch) to prevent slippage. Plus, you'll never lose these eyepieces as your name will always be visible thanks to their photoluminescent engraving. Yes, a brief illumination with a flashlight will make the engraving glow for 3 minutes and thus, even in total darkness, the eyepieces can be easily identified. This property results in a remarkably bright yellowish glow during the day.

Optical characteristics:

          • High definition over the entire field: the 76° field of view is unsurpassed by any other modern wide-field eyepiece. The visual axis sharpness and contrast offered by these eyepieces rivals our best planetary eyepieces, while offering nearly equivalent performance over the entire field. Stars appear absolutely spot-on as you move away from the center, and the field remains completely flat, even in short-focal length telescopes.
          • Large Eye Relief: Morpheus comfortably carries the wide field of view farther than ever before, visual delivery is about 20 mm away from the rubber eyecup, providing best-in-class optical performance. Spectacle wearers can very comfortably observe and enjoy the entire full field, and Binoviewers will appreciate the Morpheus eyepieces as their ultimate instruments for stereo viewing.
          • Low distortion: The Morpheus optical design offers very low angular distortion. Both planets and lunar details retain their shapes during their transit over the field of view and their apparent sizes are very close to the theoretical values, making these eyepieces a great instrument for observational precision.
          • Observing or spacewalking: as avid observers ourselves, we at Telescopiomania have studied the behavior of the most commonly available widefield eyepieces and listened to other experienced observers with similar eyepieces of other brands and what we found is that the subjective feeling of "spacewalking" is not just a consequence of the large field of view. Interestingly, some wide-field eyepieces with 82° fields were not able to provide the same visual experience as the 76° Morpheus used in our tests. This is due to the large eye relief and comfortable viewing distance that other eyepieces do not offer. Thus, these new eyepieces offer a truly "immersive" experience that allows us to literally disappear into the vastness of the eyepiece.
          • Phantom Coating®: a pioneering treatment in the famous and acclaimed Hyperion series, Phantom multi-coatings have been optimized for use on Baader's Morpheus and specifically tailored for each lens group.
          • Anti-reflective: As with all Baader Planetarium eyepieces, the internal mechanics have been fully optimized to eliminate any reflections and eliminate the effects of stray light.

Mechanical characteristics:

          • Optimized for Binoviewing: every last millimeter has been squeezed out of the main body to minimize its size to ensure maximum available (and necessary) space for observation with binocular heads.
          • Weight reduction: Baader engineers have made every effort to eliminate unnecessary weight, especially for binocular observation. Thus, the weight of the Morpheus eyepieces (350-395 grams) is basically due to the lenses made of rare-earth-rich glass, not to the metal construction of the eyepiece body. In addition, thanks to their flawless sealing they offer the best resistance and protection against water.
          • Foldable rubber eyecups: The Morpheus Baader includes dual-position soft rubber foldable eyecups. These innovative new eye shields have been developed to provide the optimum comfort and spacing for most users and spectacle wearers. The special winged version included provides the comfort and external light exclusion necessary for binocular observation with eyeglasses.

Safety features: The barrels of each Morpheus incorporate our new Slip-Protect safety notch system. The numerous surface grooves provide additional grip and safety from accidental drops that are more common on smooth-faced bodies and barrels. A large rubber stamped grip provides additional safety when handling the eyepieces.

Photo-video adaptation: Like their smaller siblings in the Hyperion series, all Morpheus eyepieces feature excellent imaging capabilities using the eyepiece projection technique. Each Morpheus includes an M43 thread hidden under the rubber eye relief that allows the use of our extensive range of Hyperion adapter accessories. These rings allow direct threading of virtually any imaging device in a solid and robust manner to avoid vignetting as much as possible.

Box includes:

          • Morpheus® 76° eyepiece
          • Standard and winged folding rubber eyepiece for binoviewing
          • Rigid box storage case
          • 3 protective caps
          • Cordura holster
