SKYWATCHER EVOLUX 82ED Refractor Optical Tube with Case
Everything you need toknow about the Sky-Watcher Evolux 82ED f/6.46
Sky-Watcher has recently completed its range of apochromatic refractors with the Evolux 62 and 82ED. They are inspired by the EvoStar range with some mechanical innovations to offer ultra-compact instruments with good optical quality. They are aimed at amateurs looking for an instrument that is as portable and lightweight as possible. The Evolux 82ED weighs only 3 kg (with clamp and dovetail) and measures 420mm in length. Its hood is effectively retractable (unlike the EvoStar 72ED). The high optical quality of this model offers everyone the possibility to acquire a high performance instrument at a very attractive price for wide field astrophotography, planetary/solar observation or for autoguiding. The Evolux 82ED will delight more than one amateur or beginner thanks to its good chroma correction. With its high-performance ED doublet, the contrast achieved is noteworthy.
To obtain the coveted "APO" rating, a refractor must correct primary and secondary chromatic aberrations, which are inherent to all systems whose light rays pass through an optical element. In the case of the Sky-Watcher Evolux 82ED, a doublet composed of an ED glass element reduces chromaticity to considerably limit the appearance of colored lines on the planets or the Moon. The ED glass chosen is the FPL-53 (Schott) which is the best able to correct these defects thanks to its very low dispersion.
The use of multi-layer coating on all surfaces considerably limits the absorption losses of the lens, which makes the Skywatcher Evolux 82ED telescopes brighter and more contrasted than conventional ED refractors minus corrections. The high transmission metallic coating (MHC) is applied to the air-crystal surfaces, which guarantees impressive results(transmission close to 99.5%). Thanks to its fast focal ratio of f/6.46, the SkyWatcher Evolux 82ED is especially interesting for deep sky photography. In combination with a large-format digital camera (an additionally available 0.9x corrector/reducer is recommended), you can, for example, capture large objects such as Orion, the Lagoon or the famous Andromeda Galaxy.
2.4" eyepiece holder with 11:1 speed reduction
Focusing is accomplished through a 2.4" (61 mm) rack-and-pinion eyepiece holder with a larger carrying capacity than the EvoStar 72ED. This means that astrophotographers with APS-C format cameras will be able to focus with greater precision and robustness. To be consistent with the optics and provide good results in astrophotography (where focusing is paramount), the Evolux 82ED's eyepiece holder has a DUAL SPEED micrometer focuser with 11:1 reduction.
To meet the requirements of amateur astronomers, the optical tube is made entirely of aluminum. No plastic parts are used. The sturdiness is present, as well as the aesthetics, which are particularly successful. The interior is blackened and baffled to limit stray light intrusion. There are 2 finder bases to place, for example, a finder (optional) and a telescope (optional) at the same time. The clamp ring is unique and has a short dovetail type Vixen.
