DOBSON mount telescopes are popular with amateur astronomers and telescope manufacturers because of their simplicity.

SKYWATCHER DOBSON telescopes with their patented tension adjustment clutch allow the user to increase or decrease the tension to increase or decrease the friction of the tube to the side of the DOBSON mount.

By having this tension adjustment, the optical tube does not need to be well balanced to be fixed in a given position.

The tension adjustment can be tightened just enough to keep the tube in a fixed position but can also be moved at any given time to readjust the position of the tube relative to the observed object.

If interested, the tension adjustment can also be tightened to the maximum to lock the tube in a given position.
