Drive System

The Diamond SteelTrack forms a high-precision micro-geared drive system never before achieved

Compared to conventional crayford or rack and pinion drives, this micro-geared motion has zero backlash, zero meshing and zero deflection.

Diamond Steeltrack 2" focusers lift a payload of 6 kg (13 lbs) in a straight line, without slippage and without excessive bearing preload (bearing preload can be further increased if necessary)

Bearing system uses instrument-grade unbreakable roller bearings instead of simple ball bearings: supports higher loads with greater rigidity and accuracy. No Teflon pads

1:10 stainless steel fine focus mechanism, ready to attach the optional Diamond Steeldrive temperature-compensated motor drive system

Detachable drive block assembly is reversible for right or left hand fine focus operation and for attaching the Diamond Steeldrive motor drive block

Shortest possible mechanical design achieves optimum balance between focuser height (back focus) and rigidity requirements

Zero offset locking knob to accurately stop any movement without affecting optical axis adjustment

Clamping system

S58 dovetail clamp integrated into the focusing tube to accept optional T-2 / M48 / M68 adapters and other S58 direct thread adapters to allow direct connection of accessories and cameras without 2" clamp

2" eyepiece clamp with hardened brass clamping ring (clamp length: 12.5 mm / ½") included as standard

Optionally available 2" Clicklock Baader clamp with integrated S58 dovetail (added length: 16mm / 5/8")

Two auxiliary threads (M60x1 and M55x0.75) cut into the RT and NT focusing tube to attach dedicated field flattener or focal reducers/correctors

Focusing tube:

Each bearing is individually adjustable for precise alignment of mechanical axis vs. optical axis

Ultra-hard bearings with subzero coating: precision milled and much harder than anodized or stainless steel.

Oversized 55 mm clear inner diameter, to prevent vignetting, with anti-reflective knife-edge baffles
