Astronomical cameras with the square SONY IMX533 sensor have had their fan base for a long time. The fast sensor is not only interesting for photography of nebulae, star clusters and galaxies, but also for photography of the sun, moon, planets and, of course, for EAA.
Now ZWO also brings this sensor to an uncooled camera .These cameras are of particular interest to astrophotographers looking for a lightweight, versatile and inexpensive camera .Despite the lack of cooling, the recordings are still smooth, so we can also recommend these cameras not only for lunar and planetary photography, but also for deep sky photography.
Sony's back-illuminated CMOS image sensor improves sensitivity and noise reduction, key factors in improving image quality, while the basic pixel structure has been radically reoriented from front to rear exposure. Theadvantages of CMOS image sensors, such as low power consumption and high operating speed, have been retained.
The back exposure improves light capture while increasing the amount of light .This makes significantly shorter exposure times possible and leads to improved quantum efficiency of up to 91%.
Sony has developed a unique photodiode structure and an on-chip lens optimized for back-illuminated structures, resulting in higher sensitivity and lower random noise without light by reducing noise, dark current and defective pixels compared to the traditional front-illuminated structure.
Conventional CMOS sensors produce a faint source of infrared light during operation, which can often be seen in the corners of uncalibrated images as a telltale sign of "amp brightness." Because the ASI533MM uses a zero-amplifier brightness circuit, you don't have to worry about amplifier brightness or amplifier brightness even when using high-gain, long-exposure imaging.
