The Kite Optics APC Stabi is the latest in binocular image stabilization technology, with no other models to compare. The difference lies in the correction angle: most of today's stabilized binoculars offer a correction angle of 0.5° to 1°, i.e. a correction of 0.8 to 1.7 meters at a distance of 100 meters. Hand tremor, observation on a windy day or due to shortness of breath after walking, will easily cause image instability that is greater than these values. The KITE APC stabilized binoculars feature a new technology that allows the instrument to correct image stability by 3°, or 5.3 meters at a distance of 100 meters, or 53 meters at 1000 meters. In other words, 6 times more, providing perfectly stable images not only from a shaky hand, but even from a car or a boat in heavy seas.
This lightweight and very compact sized instrument is also packed with intelligent functions. The electronics are powered by two AA batteries, the most common battery size worldwide, and will ensure that the instrument will run for 36 hours. To make sure you get the most out of those 36 hours, the KITE APC Stabi binoculars are equipped with sensors that will automatically put the electronics into sleep mode when you are not observing: the APC (angle power control) function detects positioning; when the instrument is placed in a vertical position, hanging from the neck or standing on a surface, the instrument is in sleep position and the stabilizing electronics are automatically switched off. When placed in a more horizontal position, i.e. when observing, the stabilization is activated, without having to touch buttons, with no accidental discharge of the battery. A timer function ensures that it switches off completely after 90 minutes, regardless of the position. This results in greatly increased battery life and comfort of use. Moreover, a low battery indicator will tell you in time when new batteries are needed.
The KITE APC Stabi is ergonomically shaped and has a 4 cm long focusing wheel that can be easily operated with 3 fingers. Although the KITE APC Stabi binocular looks different than usual, it is as easy to use as any standard pair of binoculars; in fact, the APC Stabi is also perfectly usable without activating the stabilization mechanism. The essence of this instrument is, of course, its stabilizing capability. Optically it is at the same level of performance as the KITE PETREL, however, under any circumstance of instability, be it your own hands, heavy breathing, windy conditions...these binoculars will outperform the best binoculars in the world and give you an image with details invisible to any standard binoculars.
