Although the Dual Motor Focus Controller DMFC supports a wide range of motors, it fits perfectly with the PegasusAstro Motor Focus Kit (see Recommended Accessories).
The evolution of technology in astronomy requires a system that helps to focus the telescope with high precision. Fast optics and modern camera devices require automatic focusing every so often, as temperature can affect the focal length and change the optimal focus position. Pegasus Dual Motor Focus Controller (DMFC) has been developed to meet these requirements.
Dual mode: The Dual Motor Focus Controller supports two types of motors.
DC motors through its Pulse Width Modulation duty cycle control.
High resolution stepper motors for absolute position focusing.
The controller can change the motor mode from its software, the mode can be instantly changed from 'stepper' to 'dc' motor and saved in the controller's EEPROM memory.
Manual and PC operation: The controller can be operated by PC using its USB 2.0 connectivity. A manual operation using the digital encoder on the side of the controller simulates the knob of your real focuser. Turn the knob as if it were the focuser knob on your telescope. If you push it, the motor speed will be reduced to 1:10.
Dual color indicator: A dual color (Green / Yellow) light emitting diode is installed on the side of the unit. Each color indicates the speed and the led can be turned on or off by your software during an observation session. Press and hold to deactivate the control.
Temperature probe: A one meter long digital probe is supplied. The probe can be placed close to the focuser so that the exact temperature of the focuser/environment can be viewed via the supplied software or ASCOM controller.
Backlash compensation: The controller can compensate for any backlash it may encounter in your system. The backlash compensation is performed in a function within the controller firmware.
ASCOM compatible: The controller is fully compatible with the latest version of ASCOM 6 and can be easily controlled from a computer.
INDI compatible: The Pegasus DMFC controller is included with libindi >= 1.5.1
Stand-alone software support: The controller can be operated by the stand-alone DMFC software (only available for Windows OS)
Firmware update support: The controller firmware supports reprogramming via USB 2.0 connection using the update software, for future updates that may become available.
Robofocus compatible connector: The motor output is fully compatible with the "Robofocus ©" connector. The output can drive most motors on the market. This requires the optional stepper motor cable (RJ45 to DB9) (see Recommended Accessories).
