About the AUTHOR:

Ángeles Isabel Díaz Beltrán studied for a degree in Physical Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid, where she completed her studies in 1977, and then pursued her doctorate at Yale University (USA) and the University of Sussex (UK), where she obtained her PhD degree in 1986. She has been a full university professor and has held various academic positions (vice-deanship, department chair, and others).

Since 2009 she has been professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She is the first woman to hold a chair in astrophysics in Spain.

Ángeles Díaz is a scientist of great prestige in the Spanish and international physics community, both for her research work (specialty: stellar populations in galaxies, structure and evolution of galaxies, active galaxies; thirteen doctoral theses directed) and for her teaching activity in undergraduate, master's, doctoral and university extension programs.
