Book Meteors and Meteorites.
The book "Meteoros y Meteoritos" is a reference work for both experts and laymen in this subject. It presents the most current knowledge related to meteoric phenomena and analyzes the role played by the latest advances in CCD and CMOS technology in the study of fireballs and meteors.
The book has a fundamentally practical approach, as it describes the main techniques that both professional and amateur astronomers can use to detect these interesting astronomical phenomena. In addition, it is the first work that makes available to the public the spectroscopic techniques that provide information on the composition of the rocks that impact the Earth's atmosphere.
About the author: José María Madiedo has a PhD in Astrophysics and a PhD in Chemistry. He is a recognized expert in these topics. He has been a pioneer in Spain in the development and implementation of automatic systems for the detection of meteors by means of high sensitivity CCD video cameras and for the analysis of their chemical properties by means of spectroscopy techniques. It has installed and operates ten robotic meteor detection stations at various observatories, including Calar Alto and the Sierra Nevada Observatory. It also operates the MIDAS system, which carries out telescopic detection of rock impacts against the Moon. As part of the MIDAS Project, he has detected the largest impact flash recorded on the Moon to date, an event that occurred on September 11, 2013. He is one of the researchers who participated in the recovery and analysis of the Puerto Lápice meteorite, a rock from the asteroid Vesta that fell in Castilla La Mancha in May 2007. His research work is complemented by his facet as a scientific disseminator, he contributes to raise awareness of the importance of meteorites for science through conferences, courses, exhibitions and documentaries. In 2011 he received the Aula Abierta Award for Research granted by the Faculty of Communication of the University of Seville as
recognition for this work.
