Synopsis

"Planetarium" is an extraordinary journey through outer space, from the Sun and our Solar System, through countless stars and asteroids, to the Milky Way and the Universe beyond. With stunning illustrations by Chris Wormell and instructive texts by Professor Raman Prinja, this is a museum that is always open and houses an extraordinary collection of astronomical objects, from small icy moons to immense spiral galaxies. How big is the Universe? How did it originate and what mysteries does it hold? "Planetarium" is the perfect gift for any lover of space, that immensity so unknown and unfathomable that it constitutes one of the greatest unknowns of human knowledge.

Author's biography

Raman Prinja is Professor of Astrophysics at University College London, where he has specialized in massive stars, star formation and galaxy evolution. He is a multiple winner of his university's prize for the best professors. Raman loves to make his subject accessible to the general public, and has written several successful books on astronomy, such as Observe the Night Sky, which was a finalist for the Royal Society Young People's Book Prize in 2015.

Chris Wormell was born in 1955 in Lincolnshire. He is an illustrator. Self-taught, his first book, An Alphabet of Animals, won the 1990 Bologna Book Fair Prize. In 2004 he won the New York Times Book Review Book of the Year Award for Teeth, Tails and Tentacles. Samples of his unmistakable style can be seen in such places as the cover of the bestseller H for Hawk.
