Synopsis

who has not ever fantasized about the existence of extraterrestrial beings? Since ancient times, the possibility of life outside the Earth has attracted the imagination of human beings and has been reflected in numerous manifestations of our culture, including religions, philosophy, cinema or science fiction literature. Science has not been oblivious to this concern and, since technology has made it possible, one of its objectives has been to investigate whether the processes that have led to the appearance of life on Earth could occur elsewhere in the universe. What type of extraterrestrial life is most likely to be found? What characteristics would an object found outside the Earth have to have in order to be considered a living being? Could terrestrial life thrive in the environmental conditions of other planets? And if not, could we transform those planets to make them more similar to ours?

PhD in Biological Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She is currently a research scientist at the Center for Astrobiology (CSIC-INTA), where she leads an experimental group studying the molecular basis of biological adaptation. She has always combined her scientific activity with the divulgation, highlighting the publication of the books Virus emergentes. La amenaza oculta (Equipo Sirius, 2002) and La vida. Un viaje hacia la complejidad en el universo (Sicomoro, 2019) or her participation in the project "Cultura con C de Cosmos".
