Baader Herschel 2" Cool Ceramic Mark II Photo Prism - version 2022 - 2956510P
New version of the Baader Safety Herschel 2" Cool-Ceramic Mark II PHOTO Prism with Ceramic Sunseeker and 2 ClickLock® 2" Photo version incl. 4 ND 2" 0.6/0.9/1.8/3.0 filters and (NEW) Continuum 2" 7.5 nm Solar Filter, with case no. 2452115. This version also now includes the new version of the 7.5 nm Continuum 2" Solar Filter.
High quality 50.8 mm Herschell prism. High quality prism and ceramic heat spreader. Includes 2" Neutral Density Filter 0.6 - 0.9 - 1.8 and 3.0 and the 2" Solar Continuum Filter. For sun photography. These new Herschell prism designs offer increased safety for observing white sunlight, as the heat is reduced by the ceramic dispersion plate. Supplied with 2" ClickLock eyepiece holder.
The Herschel prism is used for observing the sun with refracting telescopes in white light. This type of filter suppresses about 95% of the sun's light, and apart from being 100% reliable, it is one of the best options for observing the sun. The remaining 5% of the light is attenuated by a neutral intensity filter, ND 3.0 density, which is already installed. And with a polarizing filter the light can be reduced to the desired level.
The difference between Herschel prisms and filters mounted on the front of the telescope is that the filtering takes place just before the camera or eyepiece. This will provide better contrast and sharpness of the solar image.
The advantages of Herschel prisms are these:
- High quality optical surfaces for very good contrast
- The part of the prism that heats up the most is completely enclosed
- The required ND3.0 filter is fixed in place
- Can be used with refracting telescopes up to 150 mm aperture
Full energy and heat from the sun enters the telescope, this system is intended for use only with refractor telescopes with a Herschel prism. Refractors should not have corrector lenses or other optical element at the back. Optical elements such as lenses or secondary mirrors of reflecting telescopes become excessively hot from concentrated solar energy and could be damaged.
Brightness adjustment:
Since the Herschel prism produces polarized light, you can use a normal polarizing filter in the eyepiece or camera adapter. Turning the polarizing filter reduces the brightness. Suitable polarizing filters that we especially recommend in Telescopiomania can be found in the following links:
