Herschel LUNT LS1.25HW Prism 50.8mm (2'')
Herschel prism for professional solar observation and solar photography in white light. For refractor telescopes with a maximum aperture of 150mm and a 2'' eyepiece focuser. Complete system with built-in ND3.0 filter.
Herschel prisms are intended for solar observation in white light. Approximately 95 % of the sunlight is deflected, and the remainder is damped through a fixed installed ND3.0 gray filter. Lunt Solar Systems uses a closed housing with integrated light trap. That is, there is no lateral outflow of sunlight, so they are very safe.
The difference with solar lens filters is that the filtering is done shortly before the eyepiece or camera. Generally, the contrast and sharpness of the image of the sun with a Herschel prism is higher than with a target solar filter.
In addition, a Herschel prism is more secure than an objective solar filter. It cannot be torn like a sheet or punctured, nor can it accidentally fall out of the telescope aperture.
It can be used only with refractors with aperture up to 150 mm Since all solar energy enters the telescope and filtering takes place shortly before the focal level, we recommend only refractors (refracting telescopes) for working with Herschel prisms. The refractor should also not have any corrector lens at the back. Due to the concentrated solar energy, optical elements such as corrector lenses or the secondary mirror of a reflecting telescope would become so hot that damage cannot be ruled out.
- Image brightness regulation: Since the Herschel prism produces polarized light, a simple polarization filter that is screwed onto the eyepiece or photo adapter is sufficient. Turning it reduces the brightness. Polarization filters are not included in the scope of delivery, you can see options in the product catalog.
