The Antlia IR Pass 685nm filter is an absorbing filter that lets infrared light pass above the wavelength of 685nm. At these wavelengths, the sensitivity of the naked eye is reduced, making it unsuitable for visual observations.
The filter is strongly recommended for all planetary photography.
In the long-wave spectral range, atmospheric turbulence has much less impact on sharpness. In the infrared band, planetary images are less affected by wavefront distortions in the atmosphere (seeing), resulting in a finer, higher contrast image.
By combining a luminance image taken with the IR-Pass filter with the RGB and U-Venus filters, the overall sharpness of the image is greatly improved and the detail of the planets in the different bands is enhanced.
This filter also allows planets to be photographed during the day, thanks to the darkening of the sky created by the 685 nm IR pass filter.
