All you need to know about Antlia LRVBR+ Dark filters

The Antlia LRVBR+ "Dark" filter series is specially designed for deep sky astrophotography with black and white cameras. This filter series is designed and optimized for use with the most popular sensors on the market, such as Kodak's KAF/KAI series CCDs and Sony's IMX CMOS. This optimization results in better color balance and more natural saturation. The Dark series offers a sharper cut-off of the bandwidth of each filter.

The optical density of 4.5 (0.005%) is higher than that commonly used in Antlia filters (OD: 4), which reduces halos around stars and increases the contrast between bright objects in the image and the background sky. Emphasis is also placed on high transmission, greater than 95% in blue and 97% in red and green.

An additional filter, called R+, allows the passage of a maximum signal between 700 and 1000 nm due to the high sensitivity of current infrared sensors. In post-processing, combine the "classic" R layer with this R+ layer to obtain more luminosity.

Transmission curve of the Antlia LRGBR+ filter. The wavelength in nanometers is on the abscissa axis. The transmission percentage is on the ordinate.

Antlia LRVBR+ filters are optimized for deep sky imaging and are therefore not :

  • Not suitable for visual use
  • Not suitable for sun observation
  • Not suitable for solar imaging
