Extender rings BAADER PLANETARIUM allow each fixed-focal Hyperion eyepiece to behave as 4 different eyepieces!
Available in 14 and 28mm length, the extension rings for Hyperion BAADER PLANETARIUM have an external diameter of 2" and an internal M48 thread (for attaching filters) at each end, so that they can be installed between the negative lens group and the main body of the Hyperion eyepiece.
Thus, by increasing the distance between the two lens groups, the magnification increases (focal length decreases), following the criteria determined in the table below. The extender rings for Hyperion have been manufactured in such a way that they do not clash with the fantastic finish of the Hyperion eyepieces from BAADER PLANETARIUM, and completely painted black on the inside to avoid unwanted reflections.
Another effective way to slightly modify the eyepiece focal length is to integrate a 2" filter between the negative lens group and the main body of the eyepiece. In this way, the 2" filter acts as a small 8.5mm long extender ring. In addition, this way we have the integration of 2" filters which cannot normally be done in 1.25" eyepieces.
IMPORTANT NOTE: the extender rings CANNOT BE USED with the HYPERION 24mm eyepiece as their design is different from other fixed focal length eyepieces.
