BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepieces are highly modular and have an apparent field of 68°. BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepieces offer exceptional performance and unique specifications for both visual and photographic use, all for an unbeatable price.
The BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepieces have been redesigned from their previous versions to offer high light transmission, contrast and new practical features. BAADER PLANETARIUM made an effort to provide the best optical treatments, superb mechanics and a multifunctional design that is unique in the world.
As a viewing eyepiece, the BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperions deliver images of incredible definition and color realism across their entire 68° wide field of view (apparent field), even in short focal length telescopes. Comparisons between the BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepieces and other eyepieces costing three times as much have shown no significant difference, which gives an idea of the excellent performance of these eyepieces. With their high definition, both on the field of view axis and in the peripheral area of the field of view, and the maximum contrast provided over the entire field, the BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperions perform flawlessly.
Observing through a BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepiece is a relaxing and remarkably comfortable experience thanks to the 20mm eye relief and large lenses. Also contributing to this excellent performance is the design of its optical system, which is free of annoying effects such as obscuration and allows for many combinations in eyepiece projection photography without vignetting
The BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepieces have the following features:
- Design consisting of 8 elements in 5 groups (fixed focal lengths ranging from 5mm to 21mm). The optical design of the Hyperion eyepieces provides high definition images and color realism over the entire 68° apparent field (65° for the 21mm Hyperion). The same optical design has been selected to feature a 20mm eye relief, large lenses and an exit pupil with no dead zones (darkening) or field curvature, problems that can be common in wide field eyepieces
- The 24mm Hyperion uses a different optical design but also provides these fantastic specifications over its entire 68º apparent field. It is free of any aberration in its exit pupil and provides 17mm eye relief, with virtually zero distortion, and a well-defined image from one end of the field of view to the other, even for fast focal ratio telescopes. Its flattened focal plane is especially suitable for very bright Newton telescopes in combination with coma correctors. The Hyperion 24mm eyepiece is one of the widest field of view 24mm eyepieces on the market. A part, the Hyperion 24mm eyepiece is also the smallest and lightest of all BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepieces
- The glass used to make the lenses is of high quality to deliver crystal clear images, with low dispersion, excellent color realism and free of chromatic aberrations (yellowish or bluish colorations that are sometimes present in lower quality eyepieces). The use of high refractive index glass offers low dispersion and astigmatism, even for telescopes as fast as f/4
- BAADER PLANETARIUM is able to offer eyepieces of such high quality and large focal lengths thanks to advanced multi-treatments that have never before been applied to eyepieces. The optical treatments applied to Hyperion eyepieces, the Phantom Group™, are proprietary to BAADER and have been designed by German engineers to be applied specifically to Hyperion eyepieces and optimized for each of the lenses used in their manufacture. The result is evident, as many users have reported seeing fainter objects and more contrasty skies with Hyperion eyepieces than with other eyepieces on the market
- The Hyperion eyepiece body has been designed by Baader to carefully incorporate an optomechanical design and the execution of anti-reflection screens to eliminate ghost reflections and other undesirable effects. Observation of its interior reveals an all-black finish to avoid glare from any metallic surfaces
- Superb fit and finish. Hyperion eyepiece barrels are precision-crafted, very well machined and with a great anodized finish
- They fit both 1.25" and 2" focusers. The 1.25" barrel has a built-in thread for 1.25" filters and is short enough (2.4cm) to remain compatible with binocular heads and spotting scopes. A 2" barrel, the same length as the 1.25", is also standard and has a recess to prevent it from slipping out of the eyepiece holder by mistake (it is a safety feature)
- The rubber eyecups are practical for both spectacle and non- spectacle wearers. Each Hyperion comes with protective caps and a small leatherette pouch
- The element containing the negative lens group can be unscrewed allowing the eyepiece focal length to be modified by usingthe BAADER PLANETARIUM 14 and 28mm extender rings .
- NOTE: since the Hyerion 24mm eyepiece has a different optical design, it does not allow the use of the 14 or 28mm extender rings to reduce its focal length
- Perfect for use with binocular heads!!! For this use, the BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepieces have proven to be one of the best on the market today, even better than eyepieces that have been specially designed for this purpose. They are more comfortable to observe, with a better eye relief, with a smaller diameter body at lens height, which leaves more room for the nose, better treatments (i.e. better contrasts), larger visual field... and at half the price!!!! Our preferred Hyperion BAADER eyepieces for observation with binocular heads are the 8, 13, 17, 21 and 24mm focal lengths.
- NOTE: The 24mm design works perfectly with binocular heads and has the largest field at this focal length. However, users with a small interocular distance may find it necessary to remove the thin M54 rubber to increase the interocular distance
BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepieces incorporate some unique specifications that have been developed to make them ideal for afocal (eye projection) photography:
* The optical design of the BAADER PLANETARIUM Hyperion eyepieces enables them to work by eye projection with great image sharpness and even for cameras with large CCDs or DSLR cameras.
* The eyepiece body comes with two external threads (covered by removable rubber protectors) M43 and M54. BAADER PLANETARIUM offers a wide range of adapter rings to allow the camera to be directly and rigidly attached to the eyepiece for afocal projection photography. With a choice of 16 adapter rings, compatibility with almost all digital cameras (CCD/DSLR) can be guaranteed as well as the robustness of the system as this configuration can handle large cameras and even heavy 3 CCD video cameras.
