Astrodon it all started as a hobby to take photographs through telescopes with high resolution monochrome CCD cameras and red, green and blue filters to produce a color image of a galaxy or nebula. At first the RGB filters were not well color balanced, which meant that you could not simply combine them on the computer equally. The blue filters were not very efficient, produced noisy data and required heavier images when combined with green and red data. It was because of this that Astrodon began to design a set of RGB filters that were truly "balanced" to simplify the overall imaging task. The Astrodon project started in 2003 with this new and innovative design of truly balanced filters and today is the benchmark in astrotography and astrometry, even NASA and the Hubble Space Telescope use filters from Astrodon!
